[1] Phenoxyethanol từng được ghi nhận là gây suy yếu hệ thần kinh trung ương và gây nôn mửa, tiêu chảy ở trẻ sơ sinh khi nuốt trực tiếp thành phần này từ kem bôi núm vú khi bú mẹ (Nguồn Campaign for Sage Cosmetics). Do đó, mẹ nên tránh sử dụng mỹ phẩm có Phenoxyethanol ở những vùng da bé có thể tiếp xúc và nuốt phải như ngực, ti. Tuy nhiên, hiện chưa có báo cáo cho thấy Phenoxyethanol khi được hấp thụ qua da có thể đi vào sữa mẹ và đủ lớn để gây hại cho trẻ sơ sinh với nồng độ sử dụng theo quy định hiện tại là < 1%. Thế nên, mẹ có cân nhắc sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa thành phần này ở những vùng da ít tiếp xúc với bé. Dù vậy, để đảm bảo an toàn tốt hơn, mẹ nên tham khảo thêm ý kiến từ bác sĩ.
[2] Fragrance /Parfum trên nhãn sản phẩm đại diện cho một hỗn hợp không được tiết lộ của nhiều loại hóa chất và thành phần tạo mùi hương. Nó có nguy cơ gây kích ứng da cao. Ngoài ra, việc sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa mùi thơm cũng có thể khiến bé cảm thấy bị khó chịu do có mùi lạ. Do đó, nếu sở hữu làn da nhạy cảm, mẹ nên cân nhắc cẩn thận khi sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa hương liệu nhân tạo. Thêm vào đó, mẹ nên hạn chế sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa Fragrance ở những vùng da tiếp xúc trực tiếp với bé như ngực, cổ hoặc tay để tránh ảnh hưởng đến làn da và khứu giác của trẻ.
[3] Salicylic Acid khó có thể được hấp thụ hoặc xuất hiện đáng kể trong sữa mẹ khi dùng với một lượng nhỏ trong mỹ phẩm (Nguồn National Library of Medicine). Theo đó, thành phần này có nồng độ dưới 2% trong sản phẩm làm sạch và dưới 1% trong sản phẩm lưu lại trên da được coi là an toàn khi sử dụng trong thời kỳ cho con bú. Tuy nhiên, mẹ nên tránh bôi lên diện rộng, vùng da bị tổn thương hoặc những vùng da có thể tiếp xúc trực tiếp với da trẻ sơ sinh. Ngoài ra, bản chất của BHA là một chất tẩy tế bào chết và nó có thể khiến da mỏng yếu hơn khi vừa sử dụng. Do đó, nếu sở hữu làn da nhạy cảm, mẹ nên hạn chế sử dụng hoặc tham khảo thêm lời khuyên từ chuyên gia.
[4] Các thành phần tinh dầu tạo mùi thơm: Eucalyptus Oil (bạch đàn) và Bergamot Oil (cam bergamot) và Rosemary Oil (hương thảo) có thể gây kích ứng cho làn da nhạy cảm. Mẹ nên cẩn thận khi sử dụng.
[5] Ensulizole, Iscotrizinol, Mexoryl SX, Mexoryl XL, Parsol SLX, Tinosorb M, Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus và Uvinul T 150 là những thành phần chống nắng hóa học thế hệ mới. Chúng có khả năng hấp thụ qua da thấp, nguy cơ gây kích ứng thấp, không gây độc gen và không gây ra tác dụng phụ cho hệ thống sinh sản. Do đó, các thành phần này được xem là không gây nguy hiểm cho sức khỏe khi được dùng với nồng độ không vượt mức giới hạn trong mỹ phẩm (Xem chi tiết). Do đó, nếu muốn lựa chọn kem chống nắng hóa học để đảm bảo sự mỏng nhẹ, mẹ có thể cân nhắc lựa chọn các dòng sản phẩm có chứa bộ lọc UV thế hệ mới. Dù vậy, các bộ lọc này vẫn chưa được FDA chấp thuận. Để đảm bao an toàn tốt nhất thì kem chống nắng vật lý (chứa Zinc Oxide hoặc Titanium Oxide) vẫn là lựa chọn tối ưu để sử dụng khi mang thai và cho con bú.
