[1] Salix Alba (Willow) Bark Extract (vỏ cây Liễu trắng) được xem là nguồn chiết xuất Salicylic Acid. Tuy nhiên, các salicin trong vỏ cây liễu cần phải có enzyme trong dạ dày mới có thể chuyển hóa thành Saliyclic Acid. Do đó, chiết xuất vỏ cây liễu được cho là có rủi ro thấp hơn nhiều so với BHA khi sử dụng bôi ngoài da. Ngoài ra, hiện cũng chưa có báo cáo về tác dụng phụ của thành phần tự nhiên này khi sử dụng cho mẹ bầu. Tuy nhiên, tương tự như BHA, chiết xuất vỏ cây liễu chỉ nên sử dụng với một lượng nhỏ <2% trong mỹ phẩm để đảm bảo an toàn. [2] Theo Hiệp hội hương thơm quốc tế IFPA, tinh dầu tràm trà Tea Tree Oil có thể sử dụng khi mang thai với nồng độ pha loãng dưới 1%. Tuy nhiên, phụ nữ mang thai sẽ có làn da nhạy cảm và dễ bắt nắng hơn do sự thay đổi nội tiết tố. Do đó, việc sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa tinh dầu thơm có thể gây kích ứng hoặc khiến các vấn đề về da trở nên trầm trọng hơn. Thế nên, mẹ hãy cân nhắc khi sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa tinh dầu thơm, đặc biệt là trong 3 tháng đầu thai kỳ.

Cụ thể, một thí nghiệm trên chuột đã cho thấy việc hấp thụ DEA qua da làm suy giảm chất dinh dưỡng thiết yếu choline ở gan. Điều này làm giảm sự hình thành thần kinh và tăng quá trình tự hủy ở vùng hải mã của bào thai chuột cống và chuột nhắt. Do đó, DEA là một thành phần được khuyến khích nên tránh sử dụng khi mang thai. [4] Fragrance /Parfum trên nhãn sản phẩm đại diện cho một hỗn hợp không được tiết lộ của nhiều loại hóa chất và thành phần tạo mùi hương. Nó có nguy cơ gây kích ứng da. Thành phần này cũng có thể hấp thụ qua da. Đặc biệt, Fragrance thường chứa Phthalate – một loại dung môi giúp cố định hương thơm nhưng có thể hoạt động như hormone và can thiệp vào nội tiết tố cơ thể. Ngoài ra, các công bố gần đây từ Harvard còn cho thấy rằng việc mẹ tiếp xúc với Phthalate trong thời kỳ mang thai có thể làm tăng khả năng trẻ gặp các vấn đề về kỹ năng vận động và phát triển ngôn ngữ. [5] Nhóm Retinoid được hấp thụ rất thấp qua da khi bôi. Tuy nhiên, có 4 trường hợp được báo cáo về dị tật bẩm sinh liên quan đến việc sử dụng Tretinoin tại chỗ, phù hợp với bệnh lý phôi thai do Retinoid. Do đó, phụ nữ mang thai nên tránh sử dụng thành phần này trong suốt thai kỳ. (Nguồn Pubmed)
(*) Betaine Salicylate/Salicylic Acid có thể sử dụng với một lượng nhỏ (< 2% trong mỹ phẩm) để chăm sóc da mặt khi mang thai. Các nghiên cứu cho thấy những thai phụ sử dụng Acetylsalicylic Acid với liều thấp không có sự gia tăng về nguy cơ cho thai nhi.
