[1] Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract (chiết xuất lá lộc đề xanh) có chứa hàm lượng cao Methyl Salicylate. Đây được xem là nguồn BHA tự nhiên vì khi dùng trên da Methyl Salicylate có thể chuyển hóa một phần thành Salicylic Acid. Tuy nhiên, các nhà nghiên cứu đã kiểm tra kết quả của những phụ nữ sử dụng Acetylsalicylic Acid (Aspirin) liều thấp trong thời kỳ mang thai và không thấy sự gia tăng nguy cơ về các tác dụng phụ như dị tật, sinh non hoặc nhẹ cân cho trẻ khi sinh ra. Do đó, mẹ có thể cân nhắc về việc sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa Gaultheria Procumbens (Wintergreen) Leaf Extract trong thời gian mang thai. Tuy nhiên, tương tự như BHA (do có liên quan đến Aspirin), chiết xuất lá Lộc Đề cũng chỉ nên sử dụng với nồng độ thấp (khuyến cáo <2% trong mỹ phẩm) để hạn chế nguy cơ hấp thụ và kích ứng.
[2] Salicylic Acid (BHA) là thành phần tẩy tế bào chết và trị mụn thường được sử dụng trong mỹ phẩm. Nó có liên quan đến Aspirin (Acetylsalicylic Acid) – một loại thuốc chống viêm có thể đi qua nhau thai và được cho là có liên quan đến nguy cơ gia tăng các rối loạn mạch máu. Tuy nhiên, các nhà nghiên cứu đã kiểm tra kết quả của những phụ nữ sử dụng Acetylsalicylic Acid liều thấp trong thời kỳ mang thai và không thấy sự gia tăng nguy cơ về các tác dụng phụ như dị tật, sinh non hoặc nhẹ cân cho trẻ khi sinh ra. Do đó, mặc dù chưa có những nghiên cứu trực tiếp về việc sử dụng Salicylic Acid ở phụ nữ mang thai nhưng thành phần này được cho là khó có khả năng gây ra bất kỳ rủi ro nào cho thai nhi vì nó chỉ được hấp thụ với một lượng tương đối nhỏ qua da. Tuy nhiên, để đảm bảo an toàn cho sức khỏe và hạn chế nguy cơ kích kích ứng, mẹ chỉ nên sử dụng sử dụng Salicylic Acid nồng độ thấp (khuyến cáo BHA < 2% trong sản phẩm rửa sạch và BHA < 0.5% trong các sản phẩm lưu lại trên da) trong thời gian mang thai. [3] Capryloyl Salicylic Acid (LHA) là este của Salicylic Acid, thường được sử dụng trong mỹ phẩm như một thành phần tẩy tế bào chết. Do có kích thước phân tử lớn nên LHA thâm nhập vào da chậm và nông hơn so với BHA. Do đó, nó được xem là dịu nhẹ, ít gây kích ứng hơn. Tuy nhiên, tương tự như BHA (do có liên quan đến Aspirin), LHA cũng chỉ nên sử dụng với nồng độ thấp trong trong thời gian mang thai, khuyến cáo dưới 2% trong mỹ phẩm để đảm bảo an toàn. Ngoài ra, mẹ cũng nên hạn chế sử dụng Capryloyl Salicylic Acid trên diện rộng hoặc vùng da đang bị tổn thương để giảm thiểu tỷ lệ hấp thụ qua da.
[4] Cam Thảo là một chất tạo hương vị thường được sử dụng trong một số loại bánh kẹo tại châu Âu. Tuy nhiên, việc tiêu thụ quá 500mg/tuần ở phụ nữ mang thai đã được ghi nhận có nhiều khả năng sinh trước tuần 38 (Nguồn Cosmeticsinfo). Tuy nhiên, đây là con số tiêu thụ qua đường ăn/uống, không phải đường bôi ngoài da. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate và Glycyrrhiza Glabra Root Extract là 2 thành phần có nguồn gốc Cam Thảo được sử dụng phổ biến nhất trong mỹ phẩm và chúng đều tan trong nước. Điều đó có nghĩa là chúng rất khó để thẩm thấu qua hàng rào lipid trên bề mặt da. Dipotassium Glycyrrhizinate không phát hiện được trong khoang thụ thể khi thử nghiệm khả năng thẩm thấu qua da (Nguồn Cosmeticsinfo). Như vậy, các thành phần cam thảo khi bôi tại chỗ sẽ không hấp thụ qua da quá 1%. Ngoài ra, cam thảo được sử dụng trong mỹ phẩm thường có nồng độ thấp (không quá 5%). Như vậy, nếu sử dụng một hủ kem dưỡng da mặt có khối lượng 100g có thể dùng tối thiểu trong 2 tháng thì lượng cam thảo chỉ chiếm khoảng 5g. Trong đó, chỉ 1% của 5g là 0,05g (tương đương 50mg) cam thảo có thể hấp thụ qua da. Ngoài ra, sản phẩm được dùng trong 8 tuần thì lượng cam thảo hấp thụ qua da mỗi tuần chỉ khoảng 6,25mg. Con số này nhỏ hơn rất nhiều so với mốc 500mg/tuần có thể gây nguy cơ sinh non. Do đó, việc sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa Cam Thảo trong thời gian mang thai thường có rủi ro không đáng kể. Tuy nhiên, để đảm bảo an toàn tốt hơn thì mẹ nên hạn chế sử dụng mỹ phẩm dưỡng da toàn thân có chứa Cam Thảo hoặc tham khảo thêm ý kiến từ bác sĩ.
[5] Phenoxyethanol là chất bảo quản thường được sử dụng trong mỹ phẩm và các sản phẩm chăm sóc cá nhân. Nó đã được Hội đồng Chuyên gia đánh giá Thành phần Mỹ phẩm (CIR) kết luận an toàn khi sử dụng với nồng độ hiện tại là < 1%. Ngoài ra, nó cũng được Liên minh châu Âu (EU) cho phép sử dụng trong mỹ phẩm với đồng độ tối đa là 1%. Hiện tại, chưa có bất kỳ báo cáo nào cho thấy Phenoxyethanol có thể gây hại cho thai nhi. Tuy nhiên, vào năm 2008, FDA đã cảnh báo người tiêu dùng không nên sử dụng Kem núm vú Mommy’s Bliss vì có chứa Phenoxyethanol được cho là có thể gây khó thở hoặc nôn mửa và tiêu chảy ở trẻ sơ sinh có thể tiếp xúc khi bú mẹ. Mặc dù FDA chưa nhận được bất kỳ báo cáo nào về bệnh tật liên quan đến sản phẩm này nhưng nhà sản xuất vẫn tự nguyện thu hồi khỏi thị trường. Do đó, mẹ có thể sử dụng mỹ phẩm có chứa Phenoxyethanol khi mang thai nhưng nên hạn chế sử dụng ở những vùng da có thể tiếp xúc với trẻ sơ sinh khi cho con bú. (Nguồn Cosmeticsinfo)
[6] Tinosorb S, Uvinul A Plus, Uvinul T 150, Tinosorb M, Polysilicone-15 và Iscotrizinol là những thành phần chống nắng hóa học thế hệ mới. Chúng có khả năng hấp thụ qua da thấp, nguy cơ gây kích ứng thấp, không gây độc gen và không gây ra tác dụng phụ cho hệ thống sinh sản. Các thành phần này được Ủy ban Khoa học về An toàn Người tiêu dùng Châu Âu (SCCS EU) kết luận là không gây nguy hiểm cho sức khỏe khi được dùng với nồng độ không vượt mức giới hạn trong mỹ phẩm (Xem chi tiết). Do đó, nếu muốn lựa chọn kem chống nắng hóa học để đảm bảo sự mỏng nhẹ, mẹ có thể cân nhắc lựa chọn các dòng sản phẩm có chứa bộ lọc UV thế hệ mới. Dù vậy, các bộ lọc này vẫn chưa được FDA chấp thuận. Để đảm bao an toàn tốt nhất thì kem chống nắng vật lý (chứa Zinc Oxide hoặc Titanium Oxide) vẫn là lựa chọn tối ưu nhất cho mẹ bầu.

[7] Hiện chưa có đủ nghiên cứu trực tiếp về độ an toàn của Rosemary Oil – tinh dầu hương thảo khi sử dụng ngoài da trong thời kỳ mang thai. Tuy nhiên, hương thảo có thể không an toàn khi dùng đường uống do có khả năng gây kích thích tử cung. Trong mỹ phẩm, Rosemary Oil thường được sử dụng ở nồng độ thấp và chưa có bằng chứng cho thấy gây ảnh hưởng đến thai nhi. Tuy nhiên, do tinh dầu có hoạt tính sinh học cao và có thể hấp thụ một phần qua da nên các sản phẩm có chứa Rosemary Oil vẫn nên được hạn chế sử dụng khi mang thai để đảm bảo an toàn tốt hơn. [8] Các thành phần chống nắng hóa học có thể hấp thụ qua da và 4 trong số đó là Oxybenzone, Octinoxate, Homosalate & Avobenzone hiện vẫn đang gây tranh cãi về nguy cơ gây rối loạn nội tiết tố cho người dùng. Ngoài ra, chúng còn có thể gây kích ứng cho làn da nhạy cảm. Do đó, để đảm bảo an toàn, mẹ nên hạn chế sử dụng các sản phẩm có chứa 4 thành phần này trong thời kỳ mang thai. (Nguồn EWG).
[9] Fragrance /Parfum trên nhãn sản phẩm đại diện cho một hỗn hợp không được tiết lộ của nhiều loại hóa chất và thành phần tạo mùi hương. Nó có nguy cơ gây kích ứng da. Đặc biệt, Fragrance thường chứa Phthalate – một loại dung môi giúp cố định hương thơm nhưng có thể hoạt động như hormone và can thiệp vào nội tiết tố cơ thể. Ngoài ra, các nghiên cứu còn cho thấy rằng việc mẹ tiếp xúc với Phthalate trong thời kỳ mang thai có ảnh hưởng tiêu cực đến cả sức khỏe của mẹ, thai nhi và trẻ sơ sinh. Phơi nhiễm Phthalate có thể dẫn đến các biến chứng thai kỳ như tiểu đường, tăng cân, tăng huyết áp ở mẹ; làm tăng nguy cơ sinh non và mắc các rối loạn phát triển thần kinh ở trẻ khi sinh ra như rối loạn tăng độ giảm chú ý, rối loạn phổ tự kỷ, giảm kỹ năng vận động và phát triển ngôn ngữ. Do đó, mặc dù Phthalate có thể chỉ xuất hiện với một lượng rất nhỏ trong mỹ phẩm cho Fragrance thường chỉ được dùng với nồng độ dưới 1% nhưng để đảm bảo an toàn thì mẹ vẫn nên hạn chế sử dụng các sản phẩm có chứa Fragrance trong thời kỳ mang thai. LƯU Ý:
- Đối với mỹ phẩm sử dụng khi mang thai, mẹ nên ưu tiên mua từ các kênh phân phối chính hãng (Official Mall) để hạn chế rủi ro về chất lượng sản phẩm.
- Bất kỳ sản phẩm nào, dù được đánh giá là an toàn thì vẫn có thể gây kích ứng với một số người có cơ địa nhạy cảm. Do đó, nếu làn da xuất hiện các dấu hiệu bất thường, mẹ nên ngưng sử dụng và tham khảo ý kiến bác sĩ.
